Perhaps the most astonishing aspect of “Lady Bird” - a film with no shortage of remarkable aspects - is Greta Gerwig’s ability to squeeze so much life into such a short period of time. In Lady Bird, the closeness of mom and daughter only intensifies the hostility and alienation that sometimes borders dangerously on hatred. The character Lady Bird is drawn to New York, not despite the bombings, but possibly because she’s drawn to excitement (naively).
